Midwest Cannabis Cup 2017
I was invited to 2017 HIGH TIMES Live & Legal Cannabis Experience Tour, the Midwest Cannabis Cup!! So, full disclosure. I have never sparked up a doobie. Yes, I said doobie. A part of my brain functions like a 70’s hippy, but it’s all good. Back to the Cannabis Cup! Even as a person that doesn’t partake of the greenery, I would definitely recommend attending! For those who aren’t too familiar with the medical marijuana culture, it’s a great learning experience and the musical line-up was banging!
I attended the two-day festival on Saturday June 24th and Sunday June 25th at the Auto City Speedway in Clio, MI. As an avid music festival goer (travelling all over the country) my first thought was, this is a well-put together, well-organized event. And, not all festivals give off that vibe as soon as you pull into the parking lot and enter the venue. I had no trouble getting my media pass from will call and there were no long lines at the gate.
Cannabis Cup had literally EVERYTHING; from seminars to food vendors. The event is billed as a celebration of Michigan’s legalization of medicinal cannabis. Seminars discussed such topics as “Wonder Women of Weed”, “Teaching the World to Grow,” and “ The Way Back Home: A Veterans Discussion on Life After Service”. There were also opportunities to learn more about the healing properties of cannabis. And, because who doesn’t eat; Cannabis Cup also featured a chef competition that showed off what you could do with cannabis in the kitchen. Who knew you could infuse olive oil with it?!?
The highlights for me were the musical acts. Cannabis Cup pulled out the big guns with a line-up that included Trick Trick, Wu-Tang Clan, 50 Cent, Nelly, George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelics, and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The artists brought out all of their hits, and I know it sounds cliché, but the addition of this really great musical line-up shows that there was literally something there for everyone whether you smoke, vape, or not! The crowd was fun, energetic, and diverse! And, I didn’t feel like the oddball out because I wasn’t smoking.
I would definitely attend Cannabis Cup again and am looking forward to seeing what next year’s event has to offer. Check out some photos below from the weekend’s activities! And, find out more about the event and keep up to date here!
