Rouge Hermés - Thoughts

Hermés entered the beauty arena in March 2020 with a bang! The house introduced Rouge Hermès, a lipstick line with 24 shades available in two textures, matte and satin. The colors were chosen from the Hermés archive of 900 leather shades and 75,000 silk swatches. I initially ordered three shades, and they finally arrived in June and July, so after a few weeks of using them, I can say I am a fan! There are three things I love about these lipsticks; the pigment, the packaging, and the scent.

The Pigment:

I purchased Orange Boîte, Rouge Casaque, and Rose Mexique. The colors are bright and vibrant, and if you’re familiar with the leathers and silks of the house, you will notice the connections. The texture feels luscious and is long-wearing. And, all three shades stand up against the new must-have accessory, a mask.

The Packaging:

The packaging on this lipstick is amazing. It feels weighty in your hand, and with the option to refill the contents it makes the higher price range worth it. They also have a magnet that allows for a “click” when closing that says luxury. There is also no plastic used. Instead, the cases are made from the same hardware used on the bags and lacquered metal. The lipsticks also arrive in their own dust bag and in the signature orange Hermés box.

The Scent:

You wouldn’t think a scented lipstick would work and would give off teeny-bopper vibes but of course, that is not the case with Hermés. The scent was developed by Hermés perfumer Christine Nagel. It has hints of sandalwood, arnica, and angelica. The scent is subtle but you’ll notice it when you put it on, and it adds to the experience of wearing the lipstick.

As a collector of Hermés scarves, I already have an affinity for the house and recognize the quality and craftsmanship of their pieces. Along with the 24 shades, there will also be limited edition shades released, and there are three new ones for Fall/Winter 2020. Rose Nuit, Rose Ombré, and Rose Pommette will be released on September 21.

Rouge Hermés sets a new standard for luxury cosmetics that others will definitely need to rise to and I can’t wait to see the additions to the line.
