Still the Kings!
We love us some old school hip hop! We’re getting concerned to the point that we think most, current music is not even worth listening to, but we still give it a chance. So, when we had the opportunity to see Run DMC and Friends we jumped! A night with hip-hop pioneers and legends?!? SIGN. US. UP!
The show, held at DTE Energy Music Theatre featured Run DMC, with all of their hits including “My Adidas”, “King of Rock”, and “Peter Piper”.
The night also featured Grandmaster Flash’s Furious 5, The Sugarhill Gang, Naughty by Nature, and DJ Jazzy Jeff. The night was filled with nostalgia and memories of all things hip-hop and because we had just taken a graffiti class at the Flint Institute of Arts, we were in full B-Girl mode! Attendees were decked out in their finest Adidas gear and sung along with EVERY SONG! Many broke out the wop, the running man, and other 80’s/90’s era dances that made us long for the days of yore. If nothing else, hip hop back then was WAY more diversified!
We urge you to check these artists out if you have the opportunity and like many in the crowd, bring your kids. They need to learn about the roots of this amazing art form!
