The "Wrecka Stow" . . .
You say you like Prince, huh? He’s your ABSOLUTE favorite artist ever? Do you know what the “Wrecka Stow” is? Because if you don’t, you’ve got some explaining to do.
Under the Cherry Moon was released in 1986, and marks Prince’s directorial debut! Prince stars as Christopher Tracy and Jerome Benton is his partner in crime, Tricky. The debonair duo swindle rich women in the South of France, until they stumble upon Kristin Scott Thomas as Mary Sharon, the object of Christopher Tracy’s affection. The movie also stars Steven Berkoff as Mary Sharon's father, Isaac. Who, of course is against the romance. This makes for a movie filled with suspense, romance, gangsters, and AWESOMENESS!
Now, aside from the fact that this movie stars Prince! It’s also in black and white, and features amazing shots of France. A black and white movie, set in France and featuring Prince?!? Sign us up! The movie also has an AMAZING soundtrack, Parade, that blessed us with songs like “Kiss”, “Girls and Boys”, and “Mountains”. And can we just say that this movie may contain some of Prince’s best fashion and hair moments! He strolled in his heels in all the princely glory we’ve come to expect! And his hair is laid!!! Tricky wasn’t too bad either! Although this movie is occasionally billed as the sequel to Purple Rain, that honor officially goes to Graffiti Bridge. At any rate, get into the trailer of Under the Cherry Moon below and if you haven’t seen it; rent it and brush up on what a “Wrecka Stow” is . . .it’s where you’d pick up a Sam Cooke album!
