Mobile Tacos? Yes!
Danny Moilanen has partnered with Cristian Gilbert to bring us some late night tastiness, with Vehicle City Tacos! Danny came up with an idea for a food truck a few years back while living in Austin, TX, but put it on the backburner. The idea resurfaced last year when the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced a request for proposals for Food Trucks. They applied and were awarded $10,000 in start-up grant funds, and then proceeded forward with the project.
Danny comes up with most of the vegetarian dishes and Cristian works on many of the meat options that will be available. They plan on doing tacos, with a few traditional Mexican/Tex-Mex and fusion New-American options. During their soft opening as a part of Buckham Alley Fest they offered chicken and steak tacos. Both were very tasty, but steak will be our go-to favorite! The taste is reminiscent of what you would find in New York City or Cali!
In addition to bringing us great food offerings, Danny is also a champion for Downtown Flint who wants to see all of the businesses and restaurants succeed, so he is opting to not be Downtown during lunch time stating, "We really don't want to take any business away from all of those businesses that we love, when we could be doing a lot of business elsewhere where we are the ONLY food option around. We hope we'll get to feed a lot of the shops in the area and the hardworking people who deserve quality, delicious food instead of the gross fast food options which are close by.”
Since Vehicle City Tacos will always be mobile, and not Downtown during lunch hours in order to keep competition down amongst the REALLY AWESOME lunch offerings already available, they will post their location and times on their Facebook page at facebook.com/VehicleCityTacos and Twitter/Instagram @VehicleCityTaco! You can also count on seeing them Downtown during late night hours.
Vehicle City Tacos is really a group effort with Danny and Cristian, as well as Cristian’s partner Shannon, who helps out at the counter and friends who help out in the truck to keep things running smoothly, Craig Horky, a Lansing based illustrator who designed the logo, and Ryan Gregory, a local artist who built the menu board and flyer rack used to help promote Flint happenings!
And if you’ve got a hankering for tacos during a special event they will cater!
Vehicle City Tacos is DEFINTIELY worth checking out! Be sure to like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter and Instagram to find out more!
